Amelia Harris
I am excited to say I am running for school vice president 2022-2023. If you don’t know me yet my name is Amelia Harris. I have participated in a couple of sports teams here such as volleyball and basketball. This is my first year at Archbishop Murphy High School. I have loved leadership ever since I was introduced to it in sixth grade at my old school. I am confident I can bring new ideas to the team that would help to benefit our school in a positive way. Seeing as I have done leadership club for about three years at my previous school, I feel I have more experience than most. This is a community that I want to be more involved in, not just in sports. This has been a great opportunity to get back to doing what I am passionate for. If I were to be chosen as vice president I would be thrilled to grow not just in my leadership skills, but communicating and getting to know our students/community. Thank you!

Olivia Leslie
Hey! My name is Olivia Leslie and I am running for sophomore class office for the 2022-2023 school year. I hope to show the student body who I am as an individual through this letter as well as through next school year as I act on our student council. I have always been interested in leadership, especially opportunities like this one where I get to interact with my fellow students and create a better environment overall. Around campus I participate in a number of different activities. This year was my first year at Archbishop Murphy as well as my first year playing tennis with a team. I’m also a varsity witness for our school’s Mock Trial team and often write the Student Shoutouts column for our very own Into the Jungle newspaper. I worked behind the scenes with tech crew for the 2022 school musical and am a member of many different clubs such as Leaders of Change, French club, and Acts of Random Kindness. I believe that I have many ideas that align with the student body’s needs and hope to bring those to life by being a part of your student government for the upcoming school year. As a leader for Archbishop Murphy High School I plan to help make next school year one of the best yet! My overall goal is to show what AMHS stands for through service, spirit, and making sure that the voices of the student body are heard. I think I have some great ideas already and am excited for you all to hear them next year!

Afomia Theodros
Hello! My name is Afomia Theodros, and I am running for your sophomore class president. I am interested in this position because I’ll bring a perspective that will represent what the class of 2025 stands for. I would like to use my leadership and teamwork skills with other members of the student council to help organize different school events and act as a voice to share and bring all our ideas to the student senate. If given the opportunity, I would help coordinate fun events that help include all people, bringing us closer as a community. In the past, I’ve had years of experience in clubs like speech debate, mock trial, and leadership. I’ve learned many useful skills from these clubs that I can use to serve and fill this role. I enjoy organizing events and taking up big tasks and believe I can utilize my teamwork skills while working closely with others. My goal as president is to use skills from my past and current experiences to exemplify Christ-like leadership. As the student body president, I know that I can represent the Murphy way and help you guys do the same. I hope to have all of your guy’s support in this journey, and hope to be your class of 2025 sophomore president.

**Mikaela Butlay**
I’m Mikaela, I am a sophomore. I like playing sports and hanging out with my friends. I like science even though it isn’t my strongest subject. When I graduate I want to be in the medical field, maybe taking up nursing. My motivation for applying is my friends. They told me that they think I am a good person to be applying for ASB. Since I am also going to be a junior next year, colleges will be coming around and I think being a part of ASB will really help me with college applications. I also wanted to better the community through new ideas and fun activities. My strengths towards leadership I think are pretty good. I work well and get along with everyone I come across in the hallways. I think I will be able to lead the student body without a problem. My goal as a student for the school year 2022-2023 is to always stay on top of things. Getting things done and keeping up with my work is my number one priority. As a member of AMHS, I will always show my school spirit in and out of school. Showing other people the values I learn from AMHS will help them better understand that Murphy is a very good school. My goal as a leader is to always put others before myself. Showing the students what I can do as a leader I think will encourage and motivate them.

I am so thrilled to be considered for Senior Class Officer for the 22-23 school year! I believe that I am qualified to be a member of the Student Council for several reasons. First, I have empathy, which I believe is a key attribute of any successful leader. It is essential that leaders look beyond their personal experiences to effectively connect with people that inherently have differing views based upon their personal experiences. Possessing empathy allows me to effectively represent the differing views that exist in a diverse student body. Second, I am extremely dedicated and hard working. When I make a commitment I follow through to ensure positive outcomes. This is the type of leader that I believe Archbishop Murphy deserves. Finally, I am committed to creating a culture at AMHS that allows every student feels safe and heard. To accomplish this, I will utilize my communication skills to have meaningful conversations with students and staff. I am also heavily involved in the AMHS community as I do musicals, ASB, choir, Leaders of Change, and more. My main goal as a student leader is to foster community. As a senior officer, I want to build community by planning events that bring people together. I want to plan movie nights, spirit days that the student body requests, continue to make photo booths for holiday photo shoots, and plan tailgates and fundraisers that excite the students at AMHS. I plan to do this by talking to students and creating surveys where the student body can share what would enhance their highschool experience. Some of my ideas include food truck tailgates, bake sale fundraisers, iced coffee mondays, and hot chocolate mornings. Thank you for taking the time to read this statement!

Patrick Kenny
Hi I’m Patrick. I’m currently a junior on student council. I am involved in many activities around school like the tennis team, the track team, DECA, NHS, HOSA, and French club. I am applying for class office because I want to help make next year a great senior year for my classmates and also for the rest of the school. Also, I enjoy helping plan school events and, even more so, seeing them come to fruition. I believe I am a good leader because I am a good listener. I want to hear what people think about our school. I want to hear what people like and dislike and help to change the school accordingly. I believe I am a good leader because I am willing to help others. I believe that it is necessary for a good leader to be willing to help others before themselves. I am always willing to help out if someone needs my help. Next year I plan to challenge myself both as a student by taking some hard classes, but also as a leader. I am going to challenge myself to make next year exciting. This year, there were a lot of things that we did not get to do that I want to bring back next year. For example winter ball, movie nights, and more fun spirit days. With these events, I hope to bring AMHS closer as a community, and I just want people to have fun. The last two years have been stressful and tiring. I will make sure next year is not. Who knows what surprises we will have next year, but no matter what, I will do my best to make it great.

Kendall Kahlor
Hi my name is Kendall Kahlor and I am currently a junior who would love to be in the part of ASB. Why do I want the job? Well I want to be in the associated student body for multiple reasons. For starters, I would love to be given the opportunity to advance my leadership, communication, teamwork, organization, and public speaking skills. All of which I am going to need for the rest of my life. I also would love to be a part of ABS because I would have a voice for the needs and desires for the rest of the students. I can think of a few problems that I know students want to be fixed; I want to try and solve those problems with the help of others. That way the students can be happy and our school could be a better place. Lastly, I would like to join the student council simply because it looks good for college. I have some pretty high hopes and dreams for college/my life overall; ASB can push me in the right direction to achieve those goals. Some leadership skills I can use if I get this opportunity include my negotiation and my communication skills. I am also a super motivated and determined student/overall person. My dad is a salesman and is super good at negotiating and luckily I got that skill from him. I can apply that skill to compromise and understand the needs of others. I also am a very good communicator. If I am going to be absent, have a question about something, need help with a project, or anything like that I always make sure to let my teachers know. Communication is key and I am very good at that skill. More importantly, I believe that my best character trait for this job is how motivated and determined I am. No matter what, I will always finish tasks that are given to me. From daily homework to being asked to do the dishes at home, people can always count on me. If I do end up making ASB I have a few goals that I would like to accomplish before graduating. I want to make it a memorable year for all of the students. The year should be full of excitement and fun for everyone. But more importantly, I would also like to leave a legacy that inspires students at AMHS to lead with kindness and authenticity. That way, students in the years to come can also continue to build up and improve our schools community. Even after my time at Murphy is over, I still want to help the community out which could be done if I get the opportunity to be on ASB.

Makena Schick
Hey Everyone!
My name is Makena Schick and I am a junior here at AMHS. I’ve been on student council since my freshman year. I play soccer, run track, and am on Mock Trial, Musical, Photography Club, Ambassadors, Choir, and next year will be part of the sports med club. Outside of school I enjoy painting, drawing, skiing, surfing, lifting, and working at Connelly Skis.
I am applying for ASB because I would like to help revive campus life here at Murphy. Unfortunately, I’ve seen a significant shift in campus culture since the beginning of the pandemic. On ASB, I would love to bring school spirit and unity back to campus. As part of this, I’d like to place a large importance on student mental health and bring back some of the fun activities we’ve lost to the pandemic. I also want to ensure that all voices on campus have the chance to be heard. I know that unfortunately great ideas are often overlooked because there isn’t a good way to present them. I’m hoping to create a more streamlined way for students to submit suggestions and ideas.
I have been involved with leadership and student council for 6 years, three of which were here at Murphy. Throughout this time I have developed many important leadership skills. Time management, public speaking, communication, planning, organization, and teamwork are all skills I have had the opportunity to learn and practice thanks to being part of leadership programs. Additionally, I am very dedicated and have a strong work ethic. With my past experience on student council, I believe that I have a good perspective on what needs to change or be added in order to improve our community as a whole. I hope that I will get the opportunity to do so on ASB next year.
I have many goals for the 2022-2023 school year. It will be my senior year and I’ve got ideas for events that I’ve been keeping in the back of my mind since freshman year. As we continue to recover and bounce back from the effects of the pandemic, I hope to create a stronger, healthier, and more exciting campus life than ever before. In addition to the aforementioned goals in terms of communication between ASB and the student body, I also have many ideas and plans for school wide events. Next year I would like to have many more fun and exciting all-school events to help bolster unity amongst classmates and between grades. I’d like to rejuvenate our student section at sporting events to show everyone what Murphy pride is really about. Additionally, I hope to bring you more dances than years past in order to make up for what many consider to be lost time in their high school experience.
To do all of this, however, I need your help. If I get the opportunity to serve you next year on ASB, please feel free to give suggestions and constructive criticism. I hope to be someone who students feel they can always talk to and rely on. I hope to make next year a very exciting and memorable year for everyone. Thank you so much for your time, and I hope I’ll be serving you all next year on ASB.
Makena Schick
Alishia Nichols
Dear AMHS Student Body,
My name is Alishia Nichols and I am a junior. I play volleyball at AMHS and love to read and watch TV in my free time! I am motivated to apply for the ASB this year because of my interest in leadership and giving back to the AMHS community. I joined ASB during my sophomore year after observing all the work that ASB was involved in during my freshman year. Members of ASB use their free time to create, brainstorm and plan almost every event that affects the Student Body. During my first year in the Student Council, I realized that I didn’t actually know all the work and planning that would take place in order to accomplish the goals of that year. It took a lot of hard work and collaboration to learn how ASB runs but it was so much fun. I am applying again this year because I love being a part of a group that teaches me how to be a better leader and student. Committing personal hours to plan events or edit videos is not easy but it teaches me how to serve others for their benefit. I hope to be in ASB again next school year in order to continue to serve AMHS and to also increase my ability to lead those around me. I believe that my other extracurriculars like the Leaders of Change Club as well as volunteering at the Seattle Children’s hospital for the Celiac Youth Leadership Council, have prepared me well for this big responsibility. These clubs have taught me different ways of leading and also how to listen to those around me. Not everything in leadership is about talking, and a lot focuses on your ability to listen to those around you as well as their feedback. I plan to take what I have learned from these past years in ASB and other clubs in order to plan new events that can spark interest and excitement within our AMHS community.

Troy Slocum
Dear Archbishop Murphy Student body,
Hi! My Name is Troy Slocum and I am currently a student council member for the class of 2023. You might know me from the hallways, past classes together, or participation in clubs like Mock Trial, Deca, or chess, all of which I’d love to see you in next semester. For those of you who may not know me, I love anything outdoors, listening to music, and the friendships I’ve fostered here at Archbishop Murphy. I’m applying to be an ASB officer for the 2022-2023 school year because I love putting together events and activities that create memorable high school memories for myself and the rest of the student body. I’m also applying to further the development of the leadership skills I have acquired here at AMHS over the last 3 years. My strengths in terms of leadership include my enjoyment of public speaking and leading events like assemblies. My strengths also include my ability to take on many loads and roles at once and still perform well while under vast amounts of pressure and tight schedules. As a member of the Archbishop Murphy leadership team for the 2022-2023 school year I plan to act as a liaison for the student body, to receive feedback for what the leadership team does well in terms of planning and executing events such as dances, sports events, and assemblies and communicate to the rest of the leadership body what we should continue and what we should improve upon. My goals also include being intricately involved in planning said events to help improve our events for the 2022-2023 school year and make sure there are no loose ends which could damage the experience of our student body.
I can not wait for our 2022-2023 school year and I hope to make it as positive as possible for our whole student body serving as an ASB officer. Thank you for reading!
Troy Slocum
Leah Steege
Dear Student Body of Archbishop Murphy,
My name is Leah Steege and I am a Junior at AMHS. I am involved in choir and usually the Spring Musical along with other musical theater activities outside of school. My motivation for applying to ASB/Senior Officer, is because I feel as though I am a natural leader and I would like to put my strengths into the school community. I have a passion for Leadership and want to learn more about and grow my skills, whilst helping my community. I also want to be a voice to leadership and administration for students who may have ideas, concerns, questions, etc. I am qualified for a role in Student Council, because I am eager to have a learning opportunity within leadership, I am passionate about leadership, and I have leadership experience. I believe in treating others with respect no matter what position of power given, being truthful and honest to my peers and others to keep their respect for me, and valuing others and their perspectives, ideas, and well-being and plan to take that into account within any leadership roles given to me. I have a lot of ideas and goals for my time in Student Council but some of my main ones include organizing different events within the school year that would allow us as a student body to get to know each other more and allow us to reach outside of our social bubbles. Especially because of COVID, a lot of our grade has not been as united, and my goal is to help unite us back together through fun activities. And lastly another goal of mine is to incorporate more about inclusion and education on less privileged communities and minority groups and how we can help while doing this throughout school events, announcements, assemblies and more. I hope to serve you well in my time if admitted to be in ASB/ Senior Office.
Leah Steege
Lani Evans
Hello! My name is Lani Evans. I am a junior and running for senior student officer. I was in ASB both my freshman and sophomore year, wishing to again during my senior year. Taking a “break” from student council this year has given me a perspective as a true member of the student body, with no control over what does or does not happen on our campus. I have come up with my own dislikes, likes, and opinions throughout the year that I would love to be able to incorporate into this upcoming school year. Giving the student body a voice is one of the most important jobs as a member of student council. There are many things ASB can not achieve due to school restrictions, so it will be my goal to find similar alternatives as a compromise. When conflicts, events, and more arise I plan to think of the shoes of what the overarching student body would want as a whole, and even reach out to students for ideas. For dances, assemblies, and different events it is important to acknowledge that it is multiple ages involved into one singular thing. Rather than focusing on what I would like, as a senior, I would make sure to seek out ideas from underclassmen who may not feel their voices are always heard because they are younger. As a rising senior, one of my top goals is to create a community where everyone feels safe and welcome. Encouraging students to join sports and clubs, to participate in spirit weeks, to speak up when you have an opinion of something you would like to see. This form of inclusivity and comfortability is what I hope to enhance and maintain for next year and for future ASB students to continue on. I hope to leave a legacy, one that students remember. Thank you for taking the time to read my letter and I can’t wait for the next school year!
Lani Evans
